Summary
It's safe to say that mid-June is sort of the "honeymoon" phase of gardening. The final cold snaps are behind us. The plants in our landscapes are abundant in foliage. Yet, it's early enough that pest and disease issues haven't left us feeling disheartened. Yet it's what we do now with growing tomatoes, that critical mid-season care, which will keep our plants growing strong through the more challenging times ahead.

| 0:33.8 | My 45 plants are in various stages of growth, from way out growing their ultimate tomato |
| 0:38.9 | cages with lush, beautiful foliage and full-sized tomatoes that are now within about three weeks |
| 0:44.8 | of harvesting, and others look similar but are showing signs of typical tomato disease |
| 0:49.5 | that I see pretty much every year. |
| 0:51.5 | And a few others have struggled, especially a few that I'm growing in straw bales for |
| 0:56.2 | the first time, not the varieties, but the straw bales themselves. |
| 0:59.6 | That's new to me this year, but three plants in particular are giving me trouble. |
| 1:04.0 | So just this past weekend, I pulled out those three plants and replaced them with backup |
| 1:08.0 | plants I had created from suckers, basically clones of those very plants, which are so |
| 1:13.0 | easy to propagate as rooted cuttings. |
| 1:15.0 | And I highly recommend everyone does that for this very reason, because you never know |
| 1:19.4 | when you're going to need a backup plant. |
| 1:21.2 | And we'll talk more about that in today's podcast, including the type of disease I believe |
