I have the privilege of offering the listeners of James Bond Radio, that's you, an exclusive

interview with a doctor. Carrie Edwards, PhD, lecturer and author of a new book on the Bond

films of Timothy Dalton. As a film studies lecturer, Carrie, in his book, goes deep into

the unwritten subtext of these two films, unearthing

potential hidden meanings in the symbolism and character arcs, highlighting things that

even if you've seen the living daylights and licensed to kill a hundred times, you'd probably

never even considered before. It's great to see the same critical analysis usually applied

by film studies textbooks to classic films like Alien or Psycho, applied to two 80s bond films

that so many mainstream audiences seem all too happy to ignore. Let's not forget that Alan

Partridge's assistant Lynn referred to Dalton's movies as the Welsh ones.

Carrie's book is entitled He Disagreed with Something That Ate Him,

and it's a short but punchy introduction into the world of how to read a film.

I caught up with Carrie recently over Skype, and I was happily oblivious as we spoke to the creaky desk that I was leaning on.
