Summary

We were all new runners once! On this episode, Lucy Wallace and I look back on all the things we didn’t know or understand when we first started running, from shoes and sports watches to race etiquette. Here are a few highlights: At 4:30, Lucy says: “I Googled ‘shoes that are good for not running.’ The only thing I cared about was colors. I wanted them to be bright.” At 7:15, Ali says: “The only place on my body that hasn’t chafed is the little wrinkles in my forehead… The most emotional part of running is the post-run shower.” At 11:10, Ali says: “I woke up one morning in ninth grade and after all those years of wishing on the first star I see at night for boobs, I got them. Literally overnight.” At 15:10, Lucy says: “Shout-out to my dad for paying for my cell phone.” At 16:00, Ali says: “This seems like a good pre-race dinner because it only cost $1.99!” At 17:55, Lucy says: “I’m doing a service to this race course by listening to Justin Bieber’s entire Purpose album right now.” Things We Mention on the Show: Lucy on Episode 12 of the Ali on the Run Show: 10 Thoughts From Our First Half Marathons: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/12-thoughts-we-had-during-our-first-half-marathons/id1204523870?i=1000382902143&mt=2 November Project: http://november-project.com/ Body Glide: https://www.bodyglide.com/ SPIbelt: https://spibelt.com/ Follow Lucy: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lucemagoose16 Follow Ali: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aliontherun1 Twitter: https://twitter.com/aliontherun1 Blog: http://www.aliontherunblog.com/ Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/13333410 Thank you for listening to and supporting the Ali on the Run Show! Hello world! Welcome to the Alley on the Run Show. I'm your host Alley Feller and this

0:09.6

is episode 16. On today's episode of Top 10 Tuesdays, I'm bringing back Lucy Wallace

0:15.4

to add some sass to the mix. You may remember Lucy from episode 12 when she shared some

0:20.4

of her thoughts from her first half marathon. You remember she's the chick who took a break

0:24.8

during the Brooklyn half marathon to do some yoga on the side of the course? Today Lucy

0:29.5

and I are talking about 10 things we were both clueless about as new runners. Lucy's been

0:34.2

running for three years and I've been running for almost 10. So while neither of us are

0:38.1

the most season runners in any given pack, we've both learned quite a few things and are

0:42.7

combined 13 years on the run. But before we go ahead and reminisce on our newbie days,

0:48.1

this is my weekly ask. If you haven't done so yet, please subscribe to the Alley on the

0:52.2

Run Show on iTunes and leave a rating and review for the show. I know you're thinking

0:56.8

wow, Alley, that honestly sounds like a lot of work and I'm really busy, so I'm just

1:01.2

gonna go ahead and not do that. But hey, you know how foam rolling is painful and sucks,

1:06.1

but it's actually really good for you? Well, after you run today, hop on the foam roller

1:09.9

and distract yourself from the pain by simultaneously writing a review for the Alley on the Run Show.

1:15.2

Just a few sentences about what you're digging and enjoying or what you want more of and

1:19.4

then you can go ahead and eat dinner. You'll feel productive, you will have helped me out

1:23.5

and your body will feel all nice and loosened up. Thank you, you're the best, now enjoy my

1:28.2

run down memory lane with Lucy Wallace. All right, so we are back with Lucy Wallace and Lucy and I

1:37.2

were, we wanted to do another episode together and we were like, what should we talk about?

1:42.1

Because basically we just like having an excuse to hang out and call it work. Plus, people

1:46.0

told me I have a really good face for podcasts, so I really feel like I've got to eat.
