Do you know how to roll your airs in Italian?

With the right techniques, a little practice and a lot of patience most people can learn to do it.

Learn how and a really useful trick that you can use to make your R sound a little bit more Italian straight away.

Matteo, Ciao. And this week's lesson on how to roll your a

subject that is very close to my heart because for the longest time I just

couldn't do it at all. I was convinced that I just naturally couldn't do it. It

was physiological and I'd kind of resigned myself to speaking Italian with a slightly weird

R sound.

But then I practiced a lot doing exercises which we'll talk about very soon, everywhere.

In the shower when I was waiting for my computer to load while I was cooking and eventually

I got there.

It's still not as good as Matteo's. Let's hear it.

But I can pronounce it in words now and that's the main thing.

So what exercise did you do?

The first and probably the most useful exercise is to try saying T and D together in quick succession. So if you say to-da-to-da-to-da-to-da-to-da-to-da.

It's like a slowed-down version of T plus the rolled r for example in a word like

three so you can practice doing it faster and faster until it eventually becomes a roll

to the ttra trah trh trh and one thing that helps is you can actually imagine the word being spelled

T D instead of T R so coming back to the word three tre try and imagine it as T
