Christina Greer is a Professor of Political Science at Fordham University - Lincoln Center (Manhattan) campus. Her research and teaching focus on American politics, black ethnic politics, urban politics, quantitative methods, Congress, New York City and New York State politics, campaigns and elections, and public opinion. Prof. Greer's book Black Ethnics: Race, Immigration, and the Pursuit of the American Dream (Oxford University Press) investigates the increasingly ethnically diverse black populations in the US from Africa and the Caribbean. She finds that both ethnicity and a shared racial identity matter and also affect the policy choices and preferences for black groups. Professor Greer is currently writing her second manuscript and conducting research on the history of all African Americans who have run for the executive office in the U.S. Her research interests also include mayors and public policy in urban centers. Her previous work has compared criminal activity and political responses in Boston and Baltimore.

Prof. Greer received her BA from Tufts University and her MA, MPhil, and PhD in Political Science from Columbia University

Hey friends, it is Friday, and I have Dr. Christina Greer joining me today, and she does not

0:08.0

disappoint.

0:08.9

As always, if you want to jump to that conversation, it begins at 22 minutes into today's show.

0:14.5

But I've got your headlines and a clip show coming up.

0:17.5

I want to thank everybody who joined me last night for our subscriber hangout. We were there for almost three hours.

0:23.9

Gareth and Vicky sang to us. And we had a very special guest, Atima Omarah joined us to talk about her new book, The Instigators. She was there for about half an hour. And so we're about like, I don't know, I don't know how many people there, like 70 of you there as well. I did not record it. I'm sorry about that. But we had a great time and I hope to see you at next Thursdays hangout or anytime on the Discord platform. If you are a subscriber or Patreon.com slash Pete Dominic or go over to Substat and get a paid subscription there at Pete Dominic. I do still have a little bit of a cold.

I think I might have bronchitis. Somebody mentioned maybe I had bronchitis and I looked up to symptoms.

0:59.8

I do have a, I'm very flemy and a little nasly. So I'm sorry about that. But you know what?

1:05.3

1:21.0

If approved, the new map can ensure Tennessee sends only Republicans to Congress after the midterms.

1:25.5

The move comes in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court gutting the 1965 voting rights at that required states with a history of racial discrimination

to ensure minority representation in Congress. And the minute, they weren't required to do it,

1:37.6

like before the minute. They were prepared for when the decision came down. They, of course,

1:42.0

changed the rules. It's now legal for maps to be drawn

1:44.2

along partisan lines without any racial concerns. And so I've got some audio from Justin Pearson,

1:50.1

who is a state senator there in Tennessee, which is very powerful coming up in the clip show.

1:55.4

Huge story yesterday, really upsetting, very depressing, very important. And we've got to continue to talk about it.

2:02.1

We've got to continue to fight.

2:03.7

So here's more news.

2:06.0

A confidential CIA analysis delivered to the administration, the regime policymaker,

2:11.3

this week apparently concludes that Iran can survive a U.S. naval blockade for at least three to four months before facing more severe
