And we're crossing to Australia again today. Seems like we do this every couple of weeks at the moment,

0:44.5

but the guests we've gotten today, he lives in Australia now, but he's a British guy who,

0:49.2

everyone who grew up in the 80s in Britain, will know Tony Takushi. What a legend. What a legend indeed.

0:55.8

You know, Mean Machines magazine and CMVG as well, and of course, Mighty Sega. Yeah, well, I mean,

1:01.8

Tony was really, I mean, you mentioned Mean Machines. He was a guy that was really behind the idea

1:05.7

of Mean Machines. And he was the first guy who kind of took to reviewing those Japanese consoles in British press. Because, I mean, you think about the mid-80s, it was all spectrums and Commodore 64s and that kind of thing. Computers really were the main thing here. And he was a guy who did like the first UK review of like the Mega Drive, for example, and the Neo-Geo. And you remember when you're a kid reading about these Japanese consoles? Yeah. Seems so exciting. Imagine he was the guy that would sit there and get this before anybody else in the country and just be able to, like, form his opinion on it and shout it out there. And also, you know, he worked on a few strange systems as well. That was the new one, which was a DVD. Yeah,

1:47.0

oh, we're obsessed with the new one, aren't we? We do mention it like every other episode recently.

1:51.1

Now, this was that weird console that came out. When was it like 2001?

1:55.1

Yeah, yeah, and it was a lot of ex-Otari stuffers.

1:57.8

Yeah, really, it was a follow-up to the Atari Jaguar, really. The spiritual successor, Jeff Minter did games on there as well. And he actually convinced Tony to get involved with the new one and released a couple of titles for it. And he did one that was called Free Fall 3050 AD. Have you ever played it? I've seen videos of it, but I've not had an opportunity to play it. But all our listeners may be able to have an opportunity to play it if you can answer the special question later on. Yeah, now we do have 30 codes to give away. I mean, this was a new one game. They've got really high praise at the time, but you and I not being rich enough to afford a new one, the prices that go for on eBay these days. No, and it's just been released on Steam.

2:35.5

Yeah.

2:35.7

So you can actually play it on your PC now. Yeah, exactly. So if you want to get hold of a free code, it's given us about 30 to give away. So all you've got to do is nip onto our website, theretrohour.com. Little question to answer there. We'll leave this open for two weeks. We'll close it on Friday the 15th of February at midnight,

2:52.1

and then we'll pick up 30 winners at random.

2:54.7

And email... to answer there. We'll leave this open for two weeks. We'll close it on Friday the 15th of February at midnight and then we'll pick up 30 winners at random and email you the codes. So definitely get involved in that. And listen out for our interview with Tony Takushi, the legend coming up in around 15 minutes from now. Some really good chat about stuff that he saw stuff that he saw when he was working at Sega, like, you know, on the Sonic 2 promotional tour,
