The hymn let me be thine forever, a hymn that many of us will be singing, this coming Sunday,

the second Sunday after Pentecost, and now that we're into the Pentecost season,

why is Pentecost known as the time of the church? Greetings and welcome to issues et cetera,

coming to you from the studios of Lutheran Public Radio in Collinsville, Illinois.

I'm Todd Wilkin, thanks for tuning us in. We'll begin today looking forward to the second Sunday

after Pentecost according to the three-year electionary with Pastor Sean Denzer, and then we'll

listen to a Q&A from the 2020 issues et cetera, making the case conference with journalist Mark

and Molly Hemingway. Pastor Sean Denzer is Director of Worship for the Lutheran Church, Missouri

Senate. Sean, welcome. Great to be back, Todd. Why do we refer to Pentecost as the time of the

church? Well, there's a market shift, I guess, in that we're not following chronologically through

the life of Jesus with kind of the key events in his life standing out. Instead, we're going to

hear in the gospel readings, mostly the teachings and the ministry of Jesus, so a lot of his

healings as well as his words where he's kind of the main character speaking as opposed to the

main character acting in kind of the main chronological ways from his birth all the way to his death
