Summary

Murph interviews Eddie Diaz, a former US Navy corpsman and retired Orlando Police Officer. They discuss Eddie’s lifesaving efforts while in combat under enemy fire. Eddie’s transition back home led to him earning a college degree and becoming an Orlando Police Officer. During an early morning traffic stop, Eddie was shot 8 times and Officer George DeSalvia was murdered by a cowardly gang member. 0:37.0	All right, so we got you back now, and you're a full-fledged member of the Orlando Police Department, right? That's correct.
0:44.6	And you show it for your first shift and of course I got you working money through Friday days
0:49.0	right? Initially that was during the academy.
0:52.5	Once I graduated, I was placed, which they kind of asked you where you want to go.
0:56.8	I knew it wasn't going to be day shift because you're more seasoned, more senior officers
1:01.0	are usually on day shift shift and it's understandable.
1:03.4	So it was either evening shift or midnight shift.
1:05.8	And I said, you know what, I want to go to midnight.
1:08.0	Sounds good to me.
1:08.9	And it sort of, you know, worked in my household because by the time for example by the time Nancy was going to work she was a teacher at the time I was coming home from work
1:20.8	So then I would go to sleep and I'd sleep all day and she would wake me up
1:24.4	when she would get back from work which was around 3 o'clock. And then we could go grocery
1:30.3	shopping, cook dinner, eat, watch TV or whatnot.
1:33.9	And then by the time she was going to sleep,
1:36.2	or getting ready to go to bed, I was getting ready to go to work.
1:39.7	She would go to bed by 1045, 1030, 1045, I was back at the station because we had lineup and then
1:48.0	my shift started. It was 11 at night until 7 in the morning.
1:52.0	And, and so. What area town were you assigned to the first time?
1:57.0	Initially, I was assigned to the northeast part of the city.
2:01.1	That would be an area. You have a lot of your shopping malls. The executive airport
2:06.7	is in that area.
