The first step in organizing the family room is to stop and think about what you really do in this space.
Do you still watch DVDs or do you stream your entertainment?
If your youngest child is in 2nd grade it is OK to move all the toys out of the family room.
If your youngest child is in middle school all their toys can be in their room.

Welcome to March Madness Week 2. All right, last week we all went into our individual bedrooms and we organized our bedrooms and spent quite a bit of time in our closets and on

our clothing and then came back out into the bedroom and really looked at each

wall of our bedroom every drawer the tops of the dressers, what was on the floor,

what we've had in this bedroom and if we really like and want everything that's in there.

I am sure there is a lot of trash donating and sellable items that came out of the

bedrooms last week and if I were a betting person I would bet that probably half of

you are not done with your bedrooms yet.

I started with your bedrooms because number one it puts everybody in their own room focusing

on their own stuff which is very helpful in the beginning of a challenge.

We don't need to come together and all decide about everyone's stuff right in the beginning.

Let's just look at our own stuff.

But I also had you start in your bedroom because particularly those of you who are the children in the house,

that is your mini apartment. That is your space in the house that is all yours to both take ownership of and to take responsibility for.

And as we go through the next three weeks, which is the family room and living spaces, the basement and storage and the garage, what you're

going to find out is as you age from a child to an elementary school child

to middle school, high school, college, and beyond, your items in the

house are going to occupy less rooms and more is going to be consolidated in

your bedroom, as are you.
