Summary

Dr. Simon Southerton is an Australian geneticist and a former Mormon bishop who was excommunicated by the Mormon church for speaking too openly about his problems reconciling Book of Mormon historicity and emerging DNA research about Native Americans. On 2/4/2022 we are launching a new series on Mormon Stories Podcast.  Like with the John Larsen and Margi Dehlin (THRIVE Stories) series, Simon Southerton plans to appear monthly on Mormon Stories Podcast to explore the many ways in which Mormon Doctrine clashes with modern science.

This episode covers the Mormon church teaching of The Creation.

We will be paying Simon for his work, but need your financial support to make this happen.  If you want to support this series with Simon, please become a monthly donor to this campaign.  You can donate here: https://donorbox.org/science-vs-mormonism

0:31.6

super excited to have with us the Harado Sumano as a second co-host. Wait, are you a second

0:39.0

co-host or a third co-host? Which is that, Arado? I think it would be second co-host. Second co-host.

0:46.0

All right. Were you like your first presidency? Right. And in Harado, this project was actually

0:52.5

kind of your idea. You're your producer on this one, right? Yeah. Simon's been working really hard

0:57.4

on this project though. We all, you know, discussed a few months ago. So we're really excited about it.

1:28.8

Well, let me introduce Simon really quick. Those of you who know Simon will know that he influenced

1:34.7

me. So way back when I had my faith crisis back in the early 2000s and I was trying to make sense

1:40.2

1:45.2

written by Simon Sotherton, this former Mormon bishop, geneticist from Australia, who had

1:52.3

serviced a Mormon bishop, who knew genetics, who studied Native American DNA, and started talking

1:59.3

about it. And Simon, you were awarded with what by talking openly about the genetics?

2:07.6

Eventually, excommunication. It took about seven years, and they use other excuses to

2:13.9

excommunicate me, but yeah. Yeah. And so Simon, you've influenced a lot of people. You've been at
