Hi there, welcome to The Bowery Boys. This is Greg Young.

And this is Tom Myers.

With part two of The Bowery Boys' look at the history of television through the landscape of New York City.

Part two of our summer of 2013 TV miniseries.

Now our last episode was on the birth of television itself, the actual device.

Right, we covered two types of television, mechanical and electronic.

Mechanical would bite the dust.

An electronic television would be adopted by the networks at the time.

Those networks being NBC, ABC, CBS and...

Dumont.

I greatly enjoyed that episode Tom, but I feel like we have been sort of chomping at the bit to do this episode,

which is New York in the late 40s to 50s and 60s, also called the golden age of television.

This one's more about television production or the actual production of television shows.

Therein lies the problem, of course, because there are hundreds of television shows being produced

here in New York and in Los Angeles and in other places.

And thousands of episodes.

So we've decided to approach this in a very different way.
