This is episode 154 of the Swallier Pride Podcast and today's guest is Andrea Hayes.

She was born on Labor Day in an elevator on the way to the maternity ward in 1978.

That totally cracks me up. I love people with fun bios. She grew up in the

Philadelphia area as one of six kids. She has her bachelor's and master's in

speech pathology from Loyola University.

She luckily had an externship at the

R Adams-Calley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore,

and that's when she fell in love with the medical SLP.

She completed her CFY at the Shock Trauma Center. She worked her C. F. Y at the Shock Trauma Center.

She worked from 2005 to 2012 at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore with the initial years

covering neuroservice, then medical oncology, then cardiothorastic surgery rotations, which gave her a really nice

range of experience and exposure. She then taught the graduate course,

neurology for the speech language pathologist at Loyola University from 2006 to 2012 and created the

elective graduate course for Tracheostomy and Mechanical Ventilation. She then in 2013 decided to move to the Sunshine Coast and fell into an awesome seasonal PRN position at Blake Medical Center,

which they then offered her the supervisor of SLP position.

She earned her BCS, her board certification and

swallowing in 2015. Then she earned her Masters and Health Administration in

2019. She prides herself on education, patient safety, quality, and exceeding

the bar for our patients. And I just love this conversation with Andrea. I hope you guys all do
