It might seem like an odd topic as unlike the First World War,

which saw the deployment of gas.

Chemical weapons were not used in the Second World War,

but there was fear of their use.

Everyone carried a gas mask.

The belligerent nations had huge chemical weapons programs working throughout the war.

I'm joined by Brett Edwards.

Brett is a senior lecturer at Bath University.
