In this episode, I want to talk to you about vital statistics for biblical preaching.

I remember many years ago when I took my first shot at consecutive exposition or sequential exposition.

It was my first attempt to preach through a book of the Bible.

I was a young pastor in my first church.

I made a big announcement that next Sunday I'm going to start preaching through this book. And the

Saturday before that Sunday, I was in Lynn's Crafters in the Fox Hill Mall in Los Angeles.

If you know, you know. And one of the strong preachers of the city happened to come in to pick up his glasses while

I was sitting there.

And we ended up talking for almost three hours.

He was a real blessing to me that day.

I'll remember that day, as long as the Lord keeps me.

And one of the questions he asked me was, what was I preaching?

And I told him I was starting this book in the morning.

And he asked me how much work I had put into prepping for it. And I told him, well,

you know, pretty much last week I decided last weekend. And he told me, son don't do that.

Before you get started, you need to spend some time familiarizing yourself with that book.

And I heard him and I nodded, I'm sure, in agreement.

But in the back of my mind, I was not delaying that series.

I had already announced it.
