0:21.1	But just a quick refresher, when we left off, Emanuel was telling the story of a fight
0:24.0	between two factions of Democrats now, Obama.
0:27.1	On one side, a group of Democrats led by Senator Doug Jones, on the other, a group led
0:31.2	by Joe Reed.
0:32.2	When we left off, these two sides were headed towards a massive showdown.
0:35.9	Joe Reed is trying to protect a Democratic party in the South that is run by black people.
0:40.7	Doug Jones believes that as long as that party is led by Joe's deputy Nancy Worley, they
0:44.9	will never beat the Republicans.
0:46.7	Emanuel will take it from here.
0:48.8	So in August of 2018, that committee of party leaders, the SDEC, holds an election for
0:54.2	party chair, and Nancy Worley runs to keep her seat.
0:58.5	Joe Reed has made it clear that no matter how much Democrats in Alabama may blame Nancy
1:02.8	for the party's failings, she is his choice, his trusted ally.
1:07.5	And normally, that's all it would take.
1:09.5	Joe Reed's allies were just re-elect her.
1:12.3	But this time, it's different.
1:14.2	Doug Jones, newly elected Senator, announces that he has his own candidate that he will be
1:18.8	putting forward to run against Nancy.
