Summary

DC and Adam are back on Seeking Wisdom to talk about the importance of reading every day – one of DC’s favorite topics. But he’s changed his tune a bit. Since COVID, DC understands that so much of the important stuff happens in the “space in between” – when you’re not reading or writing or listening, but rather just being. So on this episode, DC shares why he still thinks you need to read every day – and how to accomplish that goal – but also why you need to give yourself permission to be less intense about the practice. One of the lessons that I wish I knew, the earlier version of me, the young version

0:11.0

of me knew a lot sooner than I figured out in my life was to read every day and why it is

0:17.7

so important to read each day.

0:20.2

And I talked about in the past, I'm seeking with them that I used to have this love

0:24.2

for reading when I was a kid, and then I felt like school, rightly or wrongly, kind of

0:30.2

like burned it out of me or pushed it out of me or removed that love and turned it into

0:35.6

a chore or a job, and that caused me to rebel against it. And so I stopped

0:40.4

reading for a long time. And then decades later, I started the habit of reading each day again. I wish I

0:48.1

would have never stopped. Let's assume that most people agree that reading is important and get the

0:53.6

general idea that you can

0:55.1

pick up a lot from reading. Why do you think it is that so few people actually integrate this

1:00.7

into their lives in the form of a habit or practice like you're describing? Well, I think that,

1:06.5

you know, it's like all of the lessons that we're going to talk about. I think people have heard it

1:10.6

and they believe that they know it.

1:12.7

And so in their minds, they dismiss the advice and say, oh, I already know that.

1:16.5

I already knew that.

1:17.5

But as you said, very few people practice it.

1:19.6

Like I've said before, like everybody already knows the secret to losing way less, move

1:24.1

more, but no one doesn't.

1:26.1

And that's why there's a gigantic industry that

1:28.6

markets to us about new shortcuts and tricks to be able to lose weight, which inevitably we all

1:35.7

fail trying to follow those things. So we tell ourselves, we know it, we don't do it. I think one of
