Porn Free Radio, Episode 152. Last year, I read a book called The Art of War by Stephen

Pressfield. Now, it's a book about writing and the creative process, and specifically,

0:11.0

what gets in the way of us being creative, what gets in the way of us doing the work.

0:18.4

And he has this idea that the thing that gets in the way is something he calls

0:25.1

resistance with a capital R. He says this, most of us have two lives. The life we live and the

0:35.0

unlived life within us. Between the two stands resistance. Now, he lists

0:41.8

all these different types of resistance, things that resistance does to get in the way of what

0:47.6

we're called to do. You know, he talks about procrastination. He talks about distraction. He talks about addiction. And I got excited when I was

0:58.4

reading this because I couldn't help but think about all the resistance that we have going porn

1:31.4

I mean, you know, and it can show up in our habits like, you know, when we don't do a morning

1:38.2

routine or when we don't make a phone call, it can show up in double looks or other, you know, kind of unsound activities like

1:47.4

that. And what it does, what resistance at its core does is try to keep us from changing,

1:56.1

from getting better. It tries to keep the status quo. You know, we talked about this a couple weeks ago when we talked

2:04.1

about ego is the enemy. You know, ego wants to keep things comfortable. And in the same way,

2:12.1

resistance is sort of giving in to the ego. So I want to talk about resistance today and over the next

2:21.7

couple of episodes, and I want to talk about it how it affects us at different stages of recovery.

2:27.9

Now, here's one myth that I think people have. People have this myth that if they get to 30 days, if they get to 60 days, 90 days,

2:36.6

one year, that they're going to figure this out, that recovery, they're just going to figure it out.

2:43.8

It's just going to be sort of automated. And while I will say that it does get better with certain
