Today we begin with Northumbria.

King Aethelred of Northumbria, son of Aethelwald Mall, was sitting the throne, having taken

And initially, it seems that many people were quite happy with Aethelred and were told

that he was put in power with a great deal of pomp and circumstance.

Then shortly after he took the throne, someone tried to kill Aildermann Aidwolf.

The assassination failed, but it certainly was a strange event and it had everyone looking

Three years later, two largely unknown Northumbria nobles, Herodbert and Aethelwald, killed

three other nobles, Aildwolf, not to be confused with Aidwolf who escaped, Conis Cliffa
