All right, welcome to day four in this interaction between Jesus

and the woman at the well. So at this point, Jesus meets with this woman breaking through

religious boundaries and societal boundaries. And then he digs in to where she really is, that

her whole life is pictured at this well.

The reason she's coming at noon is because she's made a train wreck of her life.

She's on her sixth man.

She's had five husbands.

The guy she's living with now is not her husband, so she's a shame.

She comes in the middle of the day.

Jesus does not wait for her to get her act together,

but he pursues her and a little simple prayer. It can be enough. He digs in to the deepest,

darkest places of her life. And she has freedom. She has healing. She has the peace of Christ

sitting next to her, making the greatest offer of all time.

Put your faith in me and you will be fully and finally satisfied with a wellspring of

life on the inside of you that leads to eternal life.

And then what she is going to do, and this happens all the time, is that she is going to

dodge the invitation with some kind of

theological jiu-jitsu here. Here's how this goes. This is a total deflection. Verse 20, the woman is

speaking. Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people

ought to worship.

And Jesus said, her woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain
