Marsha and Saga here welcome back to the Realignment.

Historically there's always two indications of it. Two indications of it. And if you get both of them,

you know you want the one. If you get one, then you can argue. So here's what they are.

First one is one that we don't like to talk about, but frankly we do all the time. And that's

how many people on each side got killed in the war or in the battle or in the engagement.

In other words, if I lose 10 and you lose 20, I won in that component. But there's a second component

as well. Because I would heart I would tell you in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, the numbers

brutal, although they are are very much in our favor. I mean sadly though we've lost them

over 6,000 people in both countries. We've probably killed 5 to 10 times that number of

terrorists. Okay, but there's another component. And that's known to use the oldest term going all

the way back to earlier historic times in Samarian stuff like that is who holds the field,

who holds the ground. In other words when the dust settles and you counter up the dead on each

side and all that, who's left there with their flag raised over that town. So in Afghanistan today

that will be the talent. We are back with the season premiere. We took a day off. Thank you to

off this season with retired general Daniel P. Folger. We came on discuss his book Why We Lost

a Generals Inside Account of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. The book is really interesting because

he wrote this book seven years ago. So this isn't just a quick take that came out over the past year

as our presence in Afghanistan started drawing down slowly and then immediately all at once.

So this was a really interesting conversation to talk about. The deeper strategic picture that

we both feel has been missing from the Twitter hot take centric conversation we've all been having.
