Summary

We turned our happiness meters to 100 for our favorite day: Podcast Tuesday! The main training topic was on the science of gut training. The stomach needs to be trained in a methodical way just like the aerobic system, but people rarely talk about how much this part of training theory plays a role in endurance. We discuss the mechanisms, studies, and considerations, ending with 4 tips to improve your performance and health. Your gut is beautifully unique and important! No matter what the pre-race porta potty says! We also did instant reactions to the Boston Marathon, including hot takes on Kipchoge's surprising fade, the wins from Chebet and Obiri, and our theories for why the race played out like it did. Plus some training takeaways from the incredible performance from Emma Bates! She uploads all of her data to Strava, which is automatic HERO STATUS.

And that was just the start! Other topics: tapering for the Canyons 100k, reflections on the past and future, a story about friends and dudes, a discussion about the awesomeness of hiking, a breakdown of the science of running and longevity, and questions from listeners on dealing with fatigue and downtime.

This one was so much fun! May your takes be hot and your guts be harmonious.

Happy Tuesday! It's Tuesday!

0:06.7

And I'm feeling an excessive amount of stoke on this Tuesday.

0:09.9

Kind of wild. Well, yeah, we have a secret to tell you, which is we are currently recording this

0:14.1

on a Monday, and we have a lot of stoke because we just watched the Boston freaking marathon.

0:18.8

It's marathon Monday. It's like one of my favorite days of the year, and we're not even in Boston

0:23.5

live to experience it. But we should actually, yeah, we should share that caveat. We do most of our

0:27.2

podcast recordings on Monday. The truth is coming out. The truth will set you free, Megan.

0:33.0

Yeah, we sometimes make it up. Sometimes we do Mondays, but we always want to have a backup

0:36.6

because sometimes our brains aren't there, and we record on Tuesday morning. But no matter what,

0:40.9

any day can be happy Tuesday. You can always say it's a happy Tuesday.

0:44.2

As I say, happy Tuesday is seven days a week. That's the kind of energy we need in life.

0:48.4

Yeah, I would say about like one-tenth of the times we wind up recording on Tuesday mornings,

0:52.2

which is always our backup slot because sometimes on Mondays, like sentences are hard,

0:56.8

existence are hard, our kind of back-and-forth dialogue is challenging and it's nice to have

1:01.6

the backup slot. Well, I'm not going to trouble today because for one of the first times in a while,

1:05.2

I had athletic greens before the recording. Oh, damn. That makes my brain so clear. I can see,

1:10.8

like just what I'm like the Oracle in the Matrix. I can see the future right now, Megan.

1:15.2

So you better watch out. I'm bringing my A game. You better bring it to.

1:18.0

Did you see the athletic greens commercials during the Boston marathon?

1:20.9

Oh, I actually didn't. I wasn't paying attention to the commercials.

1:23.2

They made athletic greens look so delicious. They had like this, I don't know how to describe it,

...
