Summary

The past few years I have found myself begging my friends to take my excess cucumbers. I've even been known to sneak a bag full on a table at church, hoping someone would take a few home. But growing cucumbers hasn't always been this successful. My first year I met several challenges. From both my success and failures, my hope is that I can give you the basics you need to grow a successful harvest of cucumbers.

They seem simple enough to grow, but that first year, I found

before? Thankfully, I learned a lot in that first season, and I'm going to pass what I learned

1:07.9

the hard way onto you. Cucumbers really are not that hard to grow, and

1:13.1

I'm going to make it simple for you today. We're going to talk about everything from planting

1:18.1

to harvesting and everything in between. If you want cucumbers this season, whether just a few in

1:24.4

your salad or you want to freeze or pickle them or make sweet pickle relish

1:29.0

that your family members will beg for, you are in for a treat today. First we're going to talk about

1:34.7

which type to plant. As I mentioned, I just thought a cucumber is a cucumber, so I planted the

1:40.8

seeds that I had and I expected to eat them fresh and pickle them and do everything

1:45.1

with the same type of cucumber.

1:47.4

But unfortunately, I realized there are different types of cucumbers.

1:51.9

You've got slicing cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, and burpless cucumbers.

1:57.5

So what's the difference?

1:59.2

Your slicing cucumbers are gonna be your salad

2:02.6

cucumbers. They're the ones that you think of when you think of eating them fresh in a salad
