Like a lot of you, I've been watching this situation in Ukraine with the mix of horror,

frustration, and helplessness, but there's also a lot to be inspired by.

The strength of the Western Alliance, the almost global unity against Putin, and most

of all, the fierce resilience of the Ukrainians and the leadership of President Zelensky.

Zelensky is showing the world what happens when people are called upon to be their best

cells.

And I've been wondering a lot, actually, how different things might have been if the

United States had had a leader who could have done the same thing for us when we were threatened

by a deadly virus.

I think President Biden really wants to be the kind of leader Zelensky is proving himself

to be.

His state of the union message made that clear.

He wants unity for this country.

But we need to remember that the reason the United States is still suffering from COVID,

from economic uncertainty, from political crisis, and civil division, and the reason the

world is facing its greatest military threat in a century is in large part because of

the very people Biden is trying to bring to his side.

Since the Republican Convention in 2016, the Republican Party has been in the United

States, the Republican Party has enabled Russia directly and indirectly and undermined

Ukraine time after time after time.

Donald Trump, the de facto leader of their party, who calls Putin a genius, was impeached

because he was willing to withhold desperately needed military aid from Ukraine if they didn't
