John Aldredice comes from Belfast and is a member of the British House of Lords.

Using his training as a psychiatrist, he was a major player in bringing about an end to the

infamous Troubles of Northern Ireland. If you analyze things in terms of political positions,

moralistic terms, then you will get people divided. Let's talk about people as

people and that's a very different way of viewing it.

Rick Steeves, we're delving into a subject that affects the security and peace of mind

of people all over the world. Our guest is John Aldredice, actually Lord Aldredice. He helped

to negotiate the Good Friday Peace Accord that created a power-sharing government in Northern

Ireland back in 1998 and finally brought an end to the troubles.

He's a trained psychiatrist and an elder in the Presbyterian Church of Ireland where his father

was a pastor.

Dr. John Thomas Alderdice is also known as the Right Honorable Baron Aldredice, a highly respected

and decorated leader in the area of conflict resolution.
