Summary

Joining Brian and myself in our virtual studio we are delighted to have Matt Ozment join us. Matt is an employment lawyer in South Carolina and is married to a vet (that is the veterinary connection). I approached Matt to ask him to talk on the podcast about contracts. Something that I’ve been asked about over the years by our graduates going into practice and thought a podcast might be the way I can ask an expert, Matt, these questions. We hope that you enjoy.

If you are in South Carolina and have a question for Matt – get in contact: [email protected]

Now, people might think, why am I going to speak to a lawyer?

0:47.3

And obviously, I'm not in any trouble.

0:48.9

Well, at least I hope I'm not in any trouble.

0:50.7

And there's been no exchange of money in brown paper bags or anything like that.

0:56.0

But I thought as we met last year, it'd be really good to get a lawyer's perspective on the

veterinary sort of profession, but in particular in sort of contracts and things that vets who

1:06.9

might be all focused on animals and having a job, but not necessarily about employment

1:13.9

contracts and contracts and things to, yeah, what that entails. So I suppose very basically

1:22.2

matter if I could start at the start. So what is an employment contract and should we all have one? Yeah, that's a great

1:29.4

question. And, you know, whether we should have one is kind of a different reality because it

1:33.8

seems like most places at this point have them for vets. I think part of that is we see it in

1:41.7

the U.S. and I think it's in the UK too as veterinary medicine has become more
