Good day, Thomas Jefferson, our podcast listeners. We're so glad that you've decided to listen to

0:05.5

the program this week. And it's a really fun one. Clay, you had a great idea for doing a series

0:11.4

of shows, 10 things about. And this first one is with Lindsey Chervinsky. And it's my understanding

0:19.8

that most all of the upcoming ones will be with Lindsey Chervinsky. And so this week it was 10

0:25.9

things about Mr. Hamilton. And it was just a delightful conversation. I knew she's the right

0:32.2

person for this, David, because she's so lively, a quick-witted, funny. She has an exquisite and

0:37.9

slightly snarky sense of humor. And she's not afraid to say what she means in plain English. And

0:43.1

I think that's exactly what this program needs. And so it came about this way. I went to see

0:49.0

the musical Hamilton. And then I came back and started to read a little bit more about him.

0:54.3

And I came upon the notion that Tally Iran, the French diplomat, said that Hamilton might have

0:58.7

been the greatest man of his time. And I thought, boy, that's interesting. I want to ask Lindsey

1:04.6

Chervinsky about that. And then I thought, you know what? I'm going to make a list of a series of

1:09.4

things that I'd like to ask Joe Ellis or Lindsey or David Swenson about. And so then I made this,

1:15.0

and it came to me in the night. I'll do a series of programs called 10 Things. And we'll do it of a

1:20.4

dozen or more figures from James Monroe and Patrick Henry to Abigail Adams and Mercy Otis Warren,

1:26.5

etc. To Lafayette or Condor Say or George Washington. Adams, James Madison, you know, the full

1:34.1

panoply of people. And if our audience likes it, and I think you will say, David, that the first

1:42.0

program proves that they will, then I'd like to do a lot of this. And I think this could become a

1:46.9

series that will be very delightful. And I have to say, and maybe more sincerely, that I really

1:58.3

like this Chervinsky. She is a young, brilliant scholar. We're fortunate to have her at one end

2:05.8

of the actuarial table. We have our great friend, Joe Ellis, who's one of the senior historians

2:12.0

of this country. And at the other end, we have this up and coming young scholar who is associated
