One of the most important tools when I'm writing this podcast are maps.

And let me tell you, finding detailed maps covering the Winter War can be challenging.

When I started the podcast, I picked up a stack of atlases, partly because atlases are really cool,

but also so that I could have maps to reference when making the podcast.

Of these, three atlases that I have covered the time period of their winter war,

and each of them only

dedicate a page or two to that conflict. Generally, with one map covering the entirety of

Finland, and then a zoom in on the Isthmus, and then a detailed map of a single battle. That

battle is what we're going to be covering in this episode.

It would occur not in southern Finland near that isthmus, or even in the areas directly north of Lake Ladoga,

but instead in the far north, 135 kilometers north of Lake Ladoga.
