Hey, everybody. So, 99 episodes ago, we covered Ruby back in 2015. If any of you kind of heard that episode,

you might have been sort of shaking your fist in the car or at the stereo.

You know, Patrick and I have done a little bit of Ruby.

You know, we did our best to do it justice.

But I'm so thankful that here we are.

Almost 100 episodes later, the podcast has really kind of come a long way.

I'm really, it's kind of a while just thinking about it.

But we have two amazing folks who know Ruby way better than Patrick and I will probably ever

know in our whole lives. So we have Mike Dolesio, engineering director at Shopify, and we have

Evan Phoenix, long time Rubyist on the show to talk about Ruby.

Also talk about Ruby Shield, Ruby Central, how Ruby plays a big role at Shopify and plenty

of other companies and really just dive deep into where the language has gone.

Thanks for having us. Absolutely. Happy to be here. Cool. So maybe we'll jump in just with a couple of backgrounds. Maybe Mike, you want to go first and tell us sort of what your sort of journey has

been like, what your experience with Ruby has been over the years, and what kind of

is a journey the path that took you to Shopify? Sure. I guess my journey to Ruby starts before I

used Ruby. When I started my career, I was working in physics and then later financial services

using Fortran and C, which are two of the least

user-friendly languages you can imagine.
