0:00.0 | So I was looking through WikiLeaks the other day, as one does, right? |
0:04.3 | And I came across something that I found rather fascinating. |
0:07.1 | There's a thing that the CIA developed called Weeping Angel. |
0:11.5 | So if you have a Samsung Smart TV, there's a really odd feature in it. It's called |
0:15.9 | fake off and when the TV is on you can push mute 182 then power and the TV appears to turn off, but it doesn't. |
0:25.8 | Now these smart TVs often have a microphone built in, so you can give them voice commands. |
0:29.8 | And when the TV is off, the mic isn't listening. |
0:32.2 | But when the TV is off, the mic isn't listening. |
0:32.5 | But when the TV is in fake off, the mic is still active. |
0:38.0 | So what the CIA did was they develop some kind of spyware |
0:41.9 | for the Samsung Smart TV TV where it would record the |

0:54.5 | then sees oh they've got a Samsung smart TV which is already a listening device no |
0:59.7 | need to leave behind a bug that might get discovered, let's just live off the land, as they say. |
1:05.2 | So the CIA agent uploads the spyware onto the TV and then puts the TV in fake off mode and leaves. |
1:13.0 | And the TV sits there recording all the audio in the room, |
1:16.8 | but appears to be off. |
1:18.6 | And then the CIA agent can remotely connect back to the TV |
1:21.5 | and get the audio files, or come back into the room later and retrieve |
1:24.2 | them off the TV. |
1:25.9 | It's wild what spy gear is developed by the federal authorities, isn't it? it. |
