And today we're talking about Penelope Spiris, director of Wayne's World, Little Rascals, the Beverly Hillbillies.

But probably most famously, she directed...

The Kid and I with Tom Arnold.

She directed the decline of Western Civilization Trilogy, which is the first one about punk films,

second one, the metal years about heavy metal, and the third one about gutter punks.

Now, I think we're kind of interested in Penelope Spiris because she has this weirdly bifurcated

career.

She's the director of this trilogy of documentaries that are, you know, some of the most beloved documentaries ever made. Is that too much of an overstatement? No, I don't think so. They're

beloved by the people who beloved them, yeah. And I think they actually impacted the music

scenes that they documented because, like, think of the metal years,

that defined what heavy metal was

to people who maybe were, like, on the outskirts of it

or maybe didn't understand it completely.

And then there was this period in the 90s

when she was an A-list comedy director

with diminishing returns, I would say.

But Wayne's World was the key one, and it was a cultural

phenomenon at the time. There's articles that, you know, the headline is like Penelopee's
