| 0:00.0 | During today's episode, I'm going to be telling you again about a podcast I think you |
| 0:06.4 | should check out. It's called Uneffing the Republic. So keep an ear out, midshow, when I tell |
| 0:11.2 | you all about it. And now, welcome to this episode of the award, winning Best of Left podcast, |
| 0:16.7 | in which we shall take a look at structures and specifics of settler colonialism from around |
| 0:22.3 | the world, including the US, the Caribbean, Australia, Israel, and Mexico. Clips today are from |
| 0:29.2 | moderate rebels. This is hell, novara media, people's republic, the east is a podcast, |
| 0:36.8 | in the thick, the real news, last born in the wilderness, and American prestige. |
| 0:48.0 | The topic we're discussing today is US imperialism in Latin America. And I like, I'll just start with |
| 0:54.0 | something very subtle, but I think important. The event is about US imperialism and not the term |
| 1:00.6 | American imperialism. And this is an interesting topic for us, you know, in the United States, we |
| 1:05.6 | call ourselves Americans. And there very much is this kind of Eurocentric American exceptionalist |
| 1:12.2 | mentality that sees the so-called West as a political construct because there's no reason that |
| 1:19.2 | Western Europe and the United States should actually be a coherent political block. If you just |
| 1:24.8 | look at pure geopolitics, that doesn't even make sense geopolitically. The reason it's a coherent |
| 1:30.7 | political block over the construction of 300 years of, 200, 300 years of US imperialism, this project |
| 1:39.2 | was integrating the United States into this larger Western block of capital. And of course, |
| 1:45.8 | the United States was founded by European colonialists who came to the United States, |
| 1:49.7 | came to the modern-day Americas in order to colonize the land, steal the resources, and |
| 1:56.4 | exterminate the indigenous population, at least those they didn't enslave. They also enslave |
| 2:01.6 | the indigenous population. So we need to understand that when we're talking about US imperialism, |
| 2:08.4 | I'm glad we're saying US imperialism because the idea of the Americas, even as a political project, |
| 2:14.5 | is rooted within the European colonization of the Americas. This was an entire region, |
