Hey everyone welcome back to the screenwriting life. I am Meg Lafov.

0:08.0

And Loring is not here today but producer Jeff is and we are so excited to be talking about part three of your amazing

0:14.7

beginner questions. If you haven't, we've done both a part one and part two.

0:18.3

Kind of talking in general about not only where to begin, but some of those exciting beginner questions that we ask is emerging writers.

0:25.4

So go back and listen to those parts if you're just catching our show for the first time, but without further ado,

0:31.5

Meg, we're going to start with the question from Kara.

0:34.0

It could be Kara, but either way, she asks, how does one know that they have the main relationship

0:39.7

and what are some guideposts or checkpoints one can refer to to ensure the main relationship is the correct one?

0:47.0

Big question. We could do a whole show on relationships and main relationships but I will try to

over and over, which we did post those questions on the Facebook group so you can go take a look

1:10.4

over there at those questions, which is just kind of like the 10 to 20 questions

1:15.0

to ask yourself about the project you're working on, mainly for features.

1:19.8

But one of those questions is, what's the main relationship. You know, telling a story is a lot of things, but I think one of the main reasons we all listen to

1:29.5

storytelling, whether it's over a campfire or whether it's in a movie or on a TV or an audio drama is for

1:36.7

relationship. And what we invest in and care about is a relationship or multiple relationships. Even if your story doesn't end with the

1:46.8

plot, well, i.e. Rocky can lose the fight, but what we care about is of course that relationship and where it ends up and

1:55.7

Lindsay Duran does an amazing seminar on this in terms of why we care so much about

2:01.9

relationships in storytelling which if you can hear that, it might be on YouTube.

2:07.0

But I coined the term main relationship because for me it's a great question to ask as you're

2:15.7

developing your project again I don't think it's something you might talk to
