This definitely happened to me, and I think it happens to nearly everyone, actually.

So a few months or sometimes even years later, you realize that you've collected a

mishmash of Italian words with not as much progress to show for it as you liked. I know I wasted a lot

of time at first, but once I found what worked, I suddenly started to make a lot more progress.
