Summary

Sarah’s just returned from Sweden, where she ran a marathon 1,300 meters underground - yes... UNDERGROUND! Wearing a hard hat and head torch, and barely able to see a few meters ahead, she braved the heat, humidity (and not to mention) brutal elevation to set a new Guinness World Record with a group of other incredible runners.

Meanwhile, Tom is clocking up distances he’s never tackled before as he dives deep into training for his first-ever ultramarathon. He’s feeling all the nerves, excitement, and occasional madness that come with it - and shares it all with Sarah and Rick.

The Running Channel Podcast  tackles one big topic each episode, amongst helpful tips and light-hearted chat on the latest news in the running world. Hosted by Sarah Hartley (amateur runner) and Andy Baddeley (former pro runner) alongside Rick Kelsey (recovering runner), the TRC Podcast is friendly, jargon-free, and the perfect accompaniment to your runs.

This episode is sponsored by Runner, who really excitingly have some new features. Yeah, there's one coming called Not Feeling 100%, which is exactly what you might expect. So if you're a bit under the weather, you might have some aches and pains or a busier period in life. Those are adjustable plans so that your training adapts to you and you can decide how long you want that to apply for. Yeah, and secondly, if you're training but you don't have a specific distance or race in mind, there are now general training plans. Yeah, sometimes you want to run without the pressure of a race in the calendar. And there are four new plans run faster, run to maintain, run further and train your way. And alongside these brand new features, you still get all the good stuff as well that you'd expect. Yeah, flexible plan length from six to 26 weeks. You've got holiday mode, bee races, pace insights, workout insights and dynamic plan updates as you go. So if you'd like to give the runner app a go, then use the code TRC to get two weeks for free. This episode, really excitingly, is sponsored by Sports Tours International. Yeah, I'm heading out with sports tours to Valencia Marathon in December. They've taken care of everything, which is amazing. And if you do want guaranteed race entry and comprehensive support of the biggest races on the planet, which is all of the World Marathon majors, the Super Half Series, and loads of iconic city, full and half marathons, then sports stores international can help you. They really look after you as well. Like they've got reps on the ground who know these races inside out. They will escort you to get your bib. They'll put on a race briefing. They'll also go out onto the course and cheer you on race day, which if you are travelling somewhere abroad and you don't know anyone else who's there, it's really nice to have that personal touch when you're running the race to cheer you on and give you a bit of extra support. And you know it's coming in the race, so you kind of look forward to it. So head over to the Sports Tours International website to find out more and to see the full

Sorry, the Running Channel podcast with Sarah Hartley, Tom Dunn, Rick Kelsey. Very funny, Rick. You know what? I ran a marathon two days ago. I haven't had a lot of sleep and I'm feeling a bit grouchy, so watch it. No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't. Yeah, sorry. All right. I won't get there. I'll get there. So we are going to be hearing about Sarah running the world's deepest marathon and also Tom here, who's training for his first ever ultra marathon.

What is it, December the 7th?

2:06.6

It is December the 7th.

2:07.6

Arguably more impressive than a Guinness World Record.

2:10.6

Hey, look, it's not, it's not a competition.

2:13.6

It's not a close one.

2:14.6

Listen, Sarah, you dug deep and you did it. Oh, thanks, mate. Yeah, let's get all the mining puns out of the way now. I haven't got any more, but I bet it was a mind-blowing experience. Oh, God's sake. Yeah, great. Okay, perfect. There's actually so much to put into today's episode. We've got an incredible

race that we've all watched online that we want to talk about. Mark has some really exciting

news for the world of running. And we've got a great question too. So let's get into it.

2:48.2

Welcome back. Thank you. But before we dive into this, because, you know, I don't even need to catch up today. I've been allowed to talk about it as the main segment of this podcast. Yeah. But let's come to you first. How are you? Well, I don't really think I can compete with what has happened to you. Hey, comparison is the thief of joy. No, it is. I mean, I did park run.

3:08.0

Yeah, nice.

3:13.9

And I've been trying to persuade my tennis coach, Luke, who has a real difficult job, to be fair to him.

3:15.3

He coaches me.

3:17.6

You know, the world's worst tennis player.

3:22.2

To do park run for about 18 months since I joined the tennis club. Right. And I eventually persuaded him to do it. You're local? Yeah, so he came to Hellsfire on Saturday. And I was like, ah, see, I can, at least I can show him a bit of a, teach him a bit of a lesson at Park run. Please tell me he absolutely flawed you.

3:41.2

Went past me on the line.

3:43.0

On the line?

3:44.4
