Summary

The election of Donald Trump raises many questions on the future of tech policy. While the GOP platform and Trump’s campaign didn’t offer many details on tech, Silicon Valley and the President-elect have clashed on high-profile issues like immigration and trade. Aside from a few outliers, the tech community was banking on a Clinton victory. With the campaign over, is there room for common ground on issues like regulation, net neutrality, and high-tech infrastructure? Will pro-tech Republicans be able to bridge the gap between Trump and the Left Coast? Evan is joined by Michael Petricone, Senior VP for Government Affairs, Consumer Technology Association.

Welcome to the tech policy podcast. I'm Evan Schwarger. On today's show, the election of Donald Trump. What does President Elect Trump think about tech policy? What does this mean for the tech community? There was a lot of chatter before the election about how Silicon Valley had thrown its lot in with Hillary Clinton. the schism between the candidate and Silicon Valley that

was so pronounced before the election? Well, first of all, the mantra of our industry is, it's all

1:18.7

about change, and the change is good. So we're going to set up a personal example here, I think,

1:24.6

with CTA in the tech industry and move forward and find

1:29.0

common ground with a new administration and see what we can do.

1:33.4

You know, the president-elect ran explicitly on a jobs platform and he quite successfully

1:39.3

tapped into a deep underlying insecurity on the part of a large number of Americans about their economic

future. And if you look at the tech industry and if you look at our companies, there are the

1:51.5

companies that are driving the economy. If you look at the top five companies and the S&P 500,

1:55.9

most of them, I believe, are tech companies. So he has every incentive to work with us,

and we have every incentive to work with us, and we have every
