Summary

On December 22, 1984, a white man named Bernhard Goetz shot 4 black teenagers on the New York City subway. He claimed self defense--that the 4 boys were in the process of robbing him. But eye witness accounts and crime scene evidence said otherwise. Still New Yorkers, who had lived in fear for years, rallied to the man's defense and he became an instant celebrity.
