All right, everyone, on today's episode of Something Major, we're going to recap round three at the Australian Open.

0:05.2

It will also give everyone a bracket update. Let's go.

0:13.6

All right, we're back.

0:15.1

Got John, Jack, Stevie, Charlie, the team at Sift.

0:18.9

Round three of the Australian Open is over. I think first maybe just a

0:23.3

little apology to Marcelo Mello. I call them Ricardo Mello. And then it turns out there's

0:29.4

actually a Ricardo Mello that used to play that we forgot about. So I just mixed up my mellos.

0:36.4

But I think we squared it up and everyone's all good online now.

0:39.8

So I just another apology to Ricardo Mello or Marcelo Mello.

0:44.9

But let's get to the big story of the day.

0:47.7

Yonix Center, Elliot Spiziri.

0:49.8

I'm going to break down what happened and then I want you guys the reaction.

1:28.9

So as everyone knows, we're watching this match, Spiziri playing unbelievable. The heat is in effect. It's like 100 degrees. At the Australian Open, they have a heat index. It's this little ticker that goes here. One, two, three, four, five. When it gets the three, precautions are in place. When it gets to four, the heat rule is in place. And the heat rule is for the women, after two sets, you get a 10 minute break. For the men, after three sets, you get a 10 minute break. When that gets to five, the roof's close. End of story. So for all the conspiracy theory people out there that think like, oh, it was in trouble. they close the roof because of its center. That's not what happened.

1:30.5

Obviously, brutal break for Spizeri.

1:33.0

He's up a set and a break.

1:35.1

Sinner is struggling like you've never seen before.

1:39.0

And yes, the heat index thing hit a five.

1:41.8

And so they closed the roof.

1:47.3

Very unfortunate for Spaziri.

1:52.8

Ultimately, that roof closed. It gets nicer inside. Center comes back and wins. Stevie,

1:58.3

let me get your take on the situation first. Yeah, I think it's insane. Look, I get where the rule is in place. Like, it's an arbitrary number that they decided at some point prior to this. So I get that they're just following rules. I just don't like that they do it in the middle of a set. Like I don't have any issue with, I get it. I know. I get why they, you know, they've come up with the rules. they're going to follow the rules that are in place. But I don't think they should do it in between sets ever.

2:51.5

I don't think they should do it in between sets ever. I don't think they should do anything in between sets or sorry, in the middle of sets until the set is over. Like they should finish that set. You know, obviously if it's rain or something, like you stop it and you close the roof. but for this instance instance i just think they should wait to the end of the set then close it like it's an outdoor tournament i mean it's it is what it is and i get that the rules are in place but the numbers were already set prior you know years prior when this this whole thing came about but um i mean i feel for elli i mean that's a total bummer. But it's still pretty impressive the way Center is able to manage his emotions, his energy level,
