Summary

A decorated Vietnam veteran, who volunteered instead of being drafted, was searching for the same sense of purpose he left over in the rice paddies of Southeast Asia. Many of his buddies never made it home and Ken wanted to find something that could replace the feeling of combat.

He became a lawyer, but soon found himself spending all his money on cocaine, booze and partying. Threatened with disbarment he got his act together...for a while. A chance encounter led him to becoming one of the biggest bulk-cash money launderers in the world. Tens of millions of dollars was routine for Ken.

In ten years, and not a single close call with the authorities. But his luck was about to run out. The IRS brought an end to Ken's charmed life. After leaving prison, another chance encounter led to working with the same people who had put him in prison. This is a story of service, a fall from grace, and redemption.

How did they get on to you then, and when you said they were looking at you, were you just coming up in investigations, or how did they come across your name?

2:28.0

Well, they may have seen me associating with some of those clients, but some of those clients had been lifetime putt smugglers.

2:37.0

So they never had a legitimate occupation. I'm sure that my name intersected with theirs.

2:44.0

And you know, Morgan, as well as I do, if you see even a legitimate attorney, and this is bad to stereotype them, but if you have none criminals dealing with them, even on legitimate transactions like cars, houses, properties, whatever, we immediately think they're suspect.

3:00.0

And you know what, most of the time we're right, because why would a criminal go to, you know, a straight attorney who might rat them out once they discover what they really do for a living?

3:21.0

No, the only contact I had with law enforcement is I used to represent a lot of them when they get in trouble themselves.

3:27.0

See, I think that's interesting, because you talked about that in your book. And in fact, your girlfriend at that time, Marguerite, had you actually represent a guy who got in charge, who got in trouble for stealing?
