Hello and happy Juneteenth, everybody.

I hope that you are potentially planning on attending or holding a celebration in Nyack, New York.

I'll be hanging out for a couple hours in the middle of the day, maybe even day drinking with some of my friends for Juneteenth.

And I'm very much looking forward to it until Trump tries to

take it away from us. He can't do it, apparently single-handedly, I'm told, but I wouldn't put it past

them. President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation took effect on January 1, 1863, and freed,

enslaved people in the remaining Confederate States, but it wasn't until June 19, 1865 that Union

Drupz arrived in Gallows and Texas and delivered the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved black

people in the state were free, according to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

And it didn't all end there. It's not so simple, but that is where it all kind of began.

Emancipation Day celebration started a year later, but it wasn't until Joe Biden became president and signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act on June 17th, 2021 establishing June 10th as a federal holiday.

The law took effect immediately.

Government offices, schools, banks, and financial markets are typically closed today. And so I hope

that you are observing the holiday some way or another. If not, maybe consider it because

it's fun and important. And our kids should know about it all.
