It's not many women.

The birth rate for most American women is still remarkably low.

We are at the lowest birth rate in the United States's history. We are

headed lower than many other countries where the birth rate has been falling. Not

the lowest, but not doing well. What does that mean for the future of a nation and there are

few women who are actually bucking that trend who are saying no rather than

having fewer than replacement number of children, we're going to have more, sometimes

much more. Why are they doing it?

Dr. Catherine Pecollic, she's a married mother of eight children. She received her

doctorate in economics from Harvard University, associate professor of

social research and economic thought in the Bush School of

Business at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

And she's author of the new book, Hanish Children, The Women Quietly Defying the birth dearth.
