It is a difficult time for the incomparable podcast panelists.

They've already spent an hour talking about Star Wars episode one, The Phantom Menace,

and most importantly, about taxation and trade routes.

And yet there's so much more to be done,

we've barely begun to scratch the surface of the actual movie beyond that opening part where there's a droid and a bunch of lightsaber stuff.

And so now we return you to those thrilling days of 1999 with our panelists, Steve Lutz, John Syracusa, Monty Ashley, Dan Warren, Serenity Caldwell, Greg Noss, and me, your host, Jason Snell.

Yeah, I'm just, I'm trying to blow through some stuff here. We get to Nabu, which is Italy. I wanted to ask about the whole Padmei, there's a queen and a handmaiden thing. She's an elected queen.

split screen? Is there also a replacement for Natalie Portman? I never understood it when I

watched it. I still don't understand

And then the very next scene where she's seen walking down the stairs and they're like,

we're going to force you to sign the treaty.

That is not her.
