Summary

Homemade compost is one of the best things you can have as a gardener. The nutrients it adds to your soil are amazing and when you make it at home it is very inexpensive. But many new gardeners are scared to get started. Today, I want to share how I've made compost and compare a using a compost pile or a compost tumbler. I hope you'll feel ready to start composting for your garden!

Welcome to another episode of the Beginners Garden podcast. I sure hope your garden is growing

0:06.1

really well right now. Regardless of where you are in your garden journey, you probably know

0:12.7

how important the quality of your soil is. I'll have to be honest with you. I didn't really

0:19.0

understand this all that well, especially my first

0:21.6

few seasons, but I have learned over the years that the quality of the soil makes a huge

0:27.7

difference in the quality and quantity of the harvest. You may have heard me and others talk about

0:34.0

how homemade compost can be a huge source of nutrients for your garden.

0:40.2

But perhaps that whole idea is a little bit overwhelming to you.

0:44.1

It is to a lot of beginners.

0:46.2

It's been a while since we've actually focused on compost here on the podcast, and I thought,

0:51.7

you know, it would be a good time for us to talk about different options

0:55.7

that would be doable for you. I've also gotten several questions on the topic and I just decided

1:01.7

to be nice to go ahead and discuss it here. So today we're going to be talking about two popular

1:07.7

ways of composting, both that I have personally used and can talk about the pros and

1:13.7

cons of each. We're going to be talking about a compost pile and a compost tumbler, which is right

1:20.8

for you. My hope is that by the end of this episode, if you haven't already delved into the world

1:27.1

of composting then you

1:29.3

will be ready to get started and if you're like me and you've done it before maybe

1:34.1

some of these tips will help you be able to expand and even tighten your

1:38.7

composting system so you can have more and more of this nutrient-rich

1:44.0

soil to give you a better soil quality in a bigger harvest.

1:50.1
