A couple weeks ago, I talked to this reporter named Evan Ratliff.

So, how long have you covered technology?

I have covered technology since 1998.

So when I started at Wired Magazine, I don't know that you could say I was covering it

at that time, I was an intern who opened the mail, but that's covering a theoretical

way.

I was part of an institution that was covering technology.

Evan's really interested in people who use the internet to invent new kinds of crime

and trickery.

Cyber Extortionist, bounty hunters, bio pirates.

But for the last five years, he's been working on this one book called The Mastermind.

It's about a guy who Evan believes could be the most prolific cyber criminal of all

time.

A man who started out as a broke nerdy computer programmer, and in an astonishingly short amount

of time, built this criminal empire that spent across the world, sowing devastation pretty

much everywhere.

The guy's name is Paul LaRue.

He was born in Zimbabwe, which at the time when he was born in 1972, Christmas Eve 1972

was a Rhodesia.
