This is hell.

14 families face evictions from their homes in the Sheikh Jara neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

And Israel's attorney general is about to rule on whether they can stay in their homes they've lived in since 1948 or if they'll

be kicked out. Families once lived in West Jerusalem but were kicked out of there back in

48 and fled to East Jerusalem where the Jordanian

government had agreed to make homes for the newly evicted. There's lots of

legal issues involved including that the land the Jordanians developed was

owned by two Jewish associations

prior to the building and occupation of the homes.

But when it comes to the law and justice in Israel, it usually does not work out well for Palestinians, but the events in Sheikh Jara, which led to deadly violence, disproportionately affecting the people of Gaza, who our guest today argues has become the scapegoat yet again.

It reveals something else, something that is behind the evictions, that fuels the violence,

that drives so much of the brutality and cruelty we see around the world today

and that is colonialism. The struggle for decolonization still continues to this day as it is ever since the end of the

second world war and we'll talk about that struggle when it comes to the recent

events in Palestine and Israel and a few when we speak with anthropologist Sarah Imud who wrote the Jotelia article
