And you're listening to The Important Cinema Club. And today, we're throwing a few punches, a few kicks.

We may even break some things, because we're talking about action movies. Specifically, action movies made with no money. This is a topic that you brought to the

podcast. What fascinates you about this area? Well, so I was thinking about like, when did I fall in

love with action movies? Like specifically, the genre meant something to me. Because when you're

growing up as a kid, stuff like Shortsnager's Terminator 2, they're there,

and you can enjoy them.

But I don't know if I was conscious that there were a genre in of themselves.

Michael Dutnikov.

Chuck Norris.

All the greats.

But it was with Hong Kong cinema that I instantly became aware of like, wow, there's a perfected way to do this.

One that North America at the time that I was watching these movies was very slowly realizing, oh, we could steal their style and do it in Matrix Ripoff movies.

By the way, I recently watched Octopussy, which I had never seen before, and just watching

this thing, I was thinking, no wonder Hong Kong action movies took the world by storm,

because, like, what the hell is this?

It's just like Roger Moore in front of rear projection, you know.

And at the same time, it took so long for America to just wake up to like, oh, wow, people like the Chinese know how to shoot action scenes, even though that when China would come to America, the Americans would be like, hey, get out of the way. We know how to do it and you don't.

That it was still looked down upon as like a lesser genre or a lesser

technical expertise.

And at the same time, around the early 2000s, when I was starting to fall in love with

this stuff, there was these communities popping up online of people just shooting their own
