0:00.0	January 26, 1966. It was a Wednesday in Adelaide, Australia, down by the southern coast of the country.
0:08.4	It was also the last week of the summer holiday break before school started up again.
0:12.7	Parents were at work, and most of them were desperate for their kids to begin the school year and have some sort of routine again.
0:18.7	That was definitely the case for Nancy Beaumont.
0:21.5	Her husband, Jim, was out of town on a business trip.
0:24.7	And so it was up to Nancy to provide all of the entertainment
0:27.9	for her three young children,
0:29.5	nine-year-old Jane, seven-year-old Arna,
0:31.7	and four-year-old Grant.
0:33.3	So the 26th was already forecasted to be a scorcher reaching at least 38 degrees Celsius or 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
0:41.3	As the children sat gathered by their breakfast table, they could already feel how hot it was going to be that day.
0:48.3	And they begged their mother, can we please go down to the beach?
0:52.3	Now, for reference, the family lived less than two miles away from
0:56.1	Glenell Beach in Somerton Park, a suburb of Adelaide. At first, Nancy was pretty hesitant to let
1:02.5	her children go, but the kids kept begging her. It was so close and they were so familiar with the area.
1:09.5	Plus, they could easily ride their bikes back and forth.
1:12.9	Eventually, Nancy did give in.
1:15.2	She told them that they could spend two hours at the beach.
1:18.2	That was it.
1:19.0	And she wanted them to come home before the heat got too intense.
1:22.3	Also, she added, it was too dangerous for them to take their bikes on the busy road.
