Whiteness is a relatively new concept that is predated by racism,

which oddly is predated by white supremacy.

Yes, white supremacy, the concept that white people are somehow better

than everybody else.

That came before racism, the discriminatory practice based on race, and all those ideas are relatively new.

You know that well-meaning uncle or aunt of yours who is so frustrated with racism

then ends the conversation with,

well, there's always been racism,

as if nothing can be done about it

because it is as natural as the sky being blue.

Well, they're wrong. They're very wrong. Racism is a recent invention and you would be surprised

who simply accepted that racism. For instance, that noted man of peace, Mahatma Gandhi, who once set a vengeance substituting

for justice and eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind, that same Gandhi who would later be applauded by Nelson Mandela for Gandhi's

opposition to apartheid had earlier set of South African white minority rule, quote, the English and the Indians spring from a common stock called the

Indoarian and the white race in South Africa should be the predominating race.

So where did white supremacy, racism, and whiteness come from?
