I think, of all the kind of modern Western instruments that are popular,

bass is the easiest instrument, in my opinion, to get good at,

and probably the hardest to be great at.

The difference between good bass players to me and great bass players is 100% brain.

You know, a good bass player has a nice tone and technique and plays,

and a great bass player knows exactly what to play when,

and more importantly, when to not play anything, what sound to get in the right moments.

Like, this is the kind of stuff that elevates the music and doesn't just sustain it.

Hey, everybody, we are sitting here today with Mr. Scott Devine. My name is Ian, and we are sitting today

with the great Michael League. You know him, of course, is the band leader and bassist of the Grammy

award-winning band Snarky Puppy, but he's also a solo artist, experienced side man, producer,

arranger, and entrepreneur working with groups and artists such as Bocante, Lala Hathaway, Chris Teeley, Joshua Redmond, David Crosby.

The list goes on and on.

And he's also the owner and founder of the record label Ground Up Music and puts on the annual Ground Up Music Festival.

He is one of the truly great artists of our generation.

We're so lucky to have him with us today.
