Turkey's president has announced his invasion of northern Syria has begun as Kurdish forces moved to

defend the border. Turkey calls the Kurds terrorists.

They fall with us, they died with us, but they're great people.

The US-backed Syrian Kurds have lost thousands of soldiers in that fight.

Are you concerned that Erdogan will try to wipe out the Kurds?

They didn't help us in the Second World War.

They didn't help us with Normandy as an example.

On Wednesday, Turkey began its assault on the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Kurdish militia

which has helped the west to defeat ISIS.

Turkey's incursion into northeast Syria was effectively given the green light by Donald Trump

when he announced the withdrawal of US troops from the region.

Not for the first time the West has abandoned and betrayed the Kurds.
