Labour has secured a surprise victory in the Batley and Spen by election.

The pundits didn't expect, the pollsters didn't expect.

What a really important victory of hope over division

and decency over hatred. The result of this election cannot stand.

So Labour has held on to Batley and Spen, only just. Kim led Beattas scraped the contest with a majority of just 323 votes.

The Conservatives came second and left-wing Firebrand George Galloway came third.
